Common Namehydroxy[4-hydroxy-5-oxo-3-(3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoyloxy)oxolan-2-yl]acetic acid
Description3-O-Galloyl-1,4-galactarolactone belongs to the class of organic compounds known as galloyl esters. These are organic compounds that contain an ester derivative of 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid. 3-O-Galloyl-1,4-galactarolactone is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, 3-O-Galloyl-1,4-galactarolactone has been detected, but not quantified in, fruits. hydroxy[4-hydroxy-5-oxo-3-(3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoyloxy)oxolan-2-yl]acetic acid is found in Phyllanthus emblica. This could make 3-O-galloyl-1,4-galactarolactone a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
