| Description | Tomencephalin belongs to the class of organic compounds known as germacranolides and derivatives. These are sesquiterpene lactones with a structure based on the germacranolide skeleton, characterized by a gamma lactone fused to a 1,7-dimethylcyclodec-1-ene moiety. (1s,2s,6r,7r,8r,12r,14s)-7-hydroxy-9,14-dimethyl-5-methylidene-4-oxo-3,13-dioxatetracyclo[8.4.0.0²,⁶.0¹²,¹⁴]tetradec-9-en-8-yl 3-methylbut-2-enoate is found in Montanoa tomentosa. (1s,2s,6r,7r,8r,12r,14s)-7-hydroxy-9,14-dimethyl-5-methylidene-4-oxo-3,13-dioxatetracyclo[8.4.0.0²,⁶.0¹²,¹⁴]tetradec-9-en-8-yl 3-methylbut-2-enoate was first documented in 1988 (PMID: 3171940). Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on Tomencephalin. |
