| Description | 2-Hexylfuran belongs to the class of organic compounds known as heteroaromatic compounds. Heteroaromatic compounds are compounds containing an aromatic ring where a carbon atom is linked to an hetero atom. 2-Hexylfuran is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, 2-Hexylfuran has been detected, but not quantified in, a few different foods, such as fats and oils, herbs and spices, and nuts. 2-hexylfuran is found in Tricholoma matsutake and Trigonella foenum-graecum. This could make 2-hexylfuran a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. |
