Natural Product Identification
Common Name2-({[3,4-dihydroxy-4-(hydroxymethyl)oxolan-2-yl]oxy}methyl)-6-{[4-(1-hydroxy-2,6,6-trimethylcyclohex-2-en-1-yl)butan-2-yl]oxy}oxane-3,4,5-triol
Description4-Megastigmene-6a,9R-diol 9-[apiosyl-(1->6)-glucoside] belongs to the class of organic compounds known as fatty acyl glycosides of mono- and disaccharides. Fatty acyl glycosides of mono- and disaccharides are compounds composed of a mono- or disaccharide moiety linked to one hydroxyl group of a fatty alcohol or of a phosphorylated alcohol (phosphoprenols), a hydroxy fatty acid or to one carboxyl group of a fatty acid (ester linkage) or to an amino alcohol. 4-Megastigmene-6a,9R-diol 9-[apiosyl-(1->6)-glucoside] is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, 4-Megastigmene-6a,9R-diol 9-[apiosyl-(1->6)-glucoside] has been detected, but not quantified in, fruits. 2-({[3,4-dihydroxy-4-(hydroxymethyl)oxolan-2-yl]oxy}methyl)-6-{[4-(1-hydroxy-2,6,6-trimethylcyclohex-2-en-1-yl)butan-2-yl]oxy}oxane-3,4,5-triol is found in Cydonia oblonga. This could make 4-megastigmene-6a,9R-diol 9-[apiosyl-(1->6)-glucoside] a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
