| Description | Piperochromanoic acid belongs to the class of organic compounds known as bicyclic monoterpenoids. These are monoterpenoids containing exactly 2 rings, which are fused to each other. Piperochromanoic acid is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, Piperochromanoic acid has been detected, but not quantified in, herbs and spices. 2-[(3z)-4,8-dimethylnona-3,7-dien-1-yl]-8-hydroxy-3-methylidene-2,4-dihydro-1-benzopyran-6-carboxylic acid is found in Piper auritum. This could make piperochromanoic acid a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. |
