DescriptionPhysapruin A belongs to the class of organic compounds known as withanolides and derivatives. These are c28 steroids structurally characterized by an ergostane skeleton usually functionalized at carbons 1, 22 and 26 to form a lactone ring. (6r)-6-[(1s)-1-[(1s,3ar,3br,6s,9ar,9bs,11as)-1,3a,6-trihydroxy-9a,11a-dimethyl-9-oxo-2h,3h,3bh,4h,6h,9bh,10h,11h-cyclopenta[a]phenanthren-1-yl]-1-hydroxyethyl]-3,4-dimethyl-5,6-dihydropyran-2-one is found in Physalis peruviana and Physalis viscosa. (6r)-6-[(1s)-1-[(1s,3ar,3br,6s,9ar,9bs,11as)-1,3a,6-trihydroxy-9a,11a-dimethyl-9-oxo-2h,3h,3bh,4h,6h,9bh,10h,11h-cyclopenta[a]phenanthren-1-yl]-1-hydroxyethyl]-3,4-dimethyl-5,6-dihydropyran-2-one was first documented in 2021 (PMID: 33807834). Based on a literature review a small amount of articles have been published on Physapruin A (PMID: 36012104) (PMID: 35883843).
