These are steroids carrying a hydroxyl group at the 12-position of the steroid backbone. 1-(5-hydroxy-1-methoxy-5-methylhexyl)-3a,3b,6,6,9a-pentamethyl-dodecahydro-1h-cyclopenta[a]phenanthrene-7,11-diol is found in Panax ginseng. 14-(5-Hydroxy-1-methoxy-5-methylhexyl)-2,6,6,10,11-pentamethyltetracyclo[8.7.0.0²,⁷.0¹¹,¹⁵]Heptadecane-5,16-diol is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). |
