| Common Name | 2-[4-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2,6-dimethoxyphenoxy]-6-(hydroxymethyl)oxane-3,4,5-triol |
|---|
| Description | 2-(4-Hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)ethanol 4'-glucoside belongs to the class of organic compounds known as phenolic glycosides. These are organic compounds containing a phenolic structure attached to a glycosyl moiety. Some examples of phenolic structures include lignans, and flavonoids. Among the sugar units found in natural glycosides are D-glucose, L-Fructose, and L rhamnose. 2-(4-Hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)ethanol 4'-glucoside is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, 2-(4-Hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)ethanol 4'-glucoside has been detected, but not quantified in, fruits. 2-[4-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2,6-dimethoxyphenoxy]-6-(hydroxymethyl)oxane-3,4,5-triol is found in Phyllanthus emblica and Salacia chinensis. This could make 2-(4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)ethanol 4'-glucoside a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. |
