These are terpene compounds formed by four isoprene units. methyl 5-(5-hydroxy-3-methylpentyl)-1,4a-dimethyl-6-methylidene-hexahydro-2h-naphthalene-1-carboxylate is found in Cryptomeria japonica, Juniperus communis, Pinus elliottii and Pinus mugo. Methyl 5-(5-hydroxy-3-methylpentyl)-1,4a-dimethyl-6-methylidene-decahydronaphthalene-1-carboxylate is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa).
