Description1,3,5,6-Tetrahydroxyandrostan-17-one, also known as 1,3,5,6-thao, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as androgens and derivatives. These are 3-hydroxylated C19 steroid hormones. They are known to favor the development of masculine characteristics. They also show profound effects on scalp and body hair in humans. Thus, 1,3,5,6-tetrahydroxyandrostan-17-one is considered to be a steroid. (3as,3br,5r,5ar,7s,9r,9as,9bs,11as)-5,5a,7,9-tetrahydroxy-9a,11a-dimethyl-dodecahydro-2h-cyclopenta[a]phenanthren-1-one is found in Sarcophyton glaucum. Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on 1,3,5,6-Tetrahydroxyandrostan-17-one.
