These are polycyclic compounds that is either a polyphenolic compound composed of two or more monocyclic aromatic units linked by an ester bond (depside), or a compound containing the depsidone structure (depsidone). methyl 4-{4-[2-(acetyloxy)-4-methoxy-6-methylbenzoyloxy]-2-hydroxy-6-methylbenzoyloxy}-2-hydroxy-6-methylbenzoate is found in Pseudocyphellaria neglecta. 3-Hydroxy-4-{[3-hydroxy-4-(methoxycarbonyl)-5-methylphenoxy]carbonyl}-5-methylphenyl 2-(acetyloxy)-4-methoxy-6-methylbenzoate is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa).
