These are terpene compounds formed by four isoprene units. 7-isopropyl-6-methoxy-1,1-dimethyl-2,3,4,9-tetrahydrophenanthrene-4a-carboxylic acid is found in Salvia blepharochlaena. 6-Methoxy-1,1-dimethyl-7-(propan-2-yl)-1,2,3,4,4a,9-hexahydrophenanthrene-4a-carboxylic acid is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa).
