| Description | Abieta-7,13-diene belongs to the class of organic compounds known as diterpenoids. These are terpene compounds formed by four isoprene units. Thus, abieta-7,13-diene is considered to be an isoprenoid lipid molecule. (-)-abietadiene is found in Abies grandis, Abies nordmanniana, Cedrus libani, Cryptomeria japonica, Juniperus sabina, Larix gmelinii, Larix kaempferi, Picea glehnii, Pinus nigra, Pinus sibirica, Pinus sylvestris and Thuja occidentalis. Abieta-7,13-diene is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. |
