| Description | Calotropagenin belongs to the class of organic compounds known as cardenolides and derivatives. These are steroid lactones containing a furan-2-one moiety linked to the C17 atom of a cyclopenta[a]phenanthrene derivative. (1r,3as,3br,5as,7r,8r,9ar,9bs,11ar)-3a,7,8-trihydroxy-11a-methyl-1-(5-oxo-2h-furan-3-yl)-tetradecahydrocyclopenta[a]phenanthrene-9a-carbaldehyde is found in Asclepias curassavica, Asclepias tuberosa, Asclepias vestita, Calotropis procera and Danaus plexippus. (1r,3as,3br,5as,7r,8r,9ar,9bs,11ar)-3a,7,8-trihydroxy-11a-methyl-1-(5-oxo-2h-furan-3-yl)-tetradecahydrocyclopenta[a]phenanthrene-9a-carbaldehyde was first documented in 2009 (PMID: 19251412). Based on a literature review a small amount of articles have been published on Calotropagenin (PMID: 33454827) (PMID: 20460804) (PMID: 21656605). |
