| Description | Panaquinquecol 5, also known as panaxyne epoxide or PQ 5, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as epoxides. Epoxides are compounds containing a cyclic ether with three ring atoms(one oxygen and two carbon atoms). Panaquinquecol 5 is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, Panaquinquecol 5 has been detected, but not quantified in, tea. 2-(hept-6-en-1-yl)-3-(penta-2,4-diyn-1-yl)oxirane is found in Panax ginseng. This could make panaquinquecol 5 a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. |
