Description[3,4-Dihydroxy-5-(3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoyloxy)-6-(3,4,5-trihydroxyphenoxy)oxan-2-yl]methyl 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoate belongs to the class of organic compounds known as fatty acid methyl esters. Fatty acid methyl esters are compounds containing a fatty acid that is esterified with a methyl group. They have the general structure RC(=O)OR', where R=fatty aliphatic tail or organyl group and R'=methyl group. 4,5-dihydroxy-6-[(3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoyloxy)methyl]-2-(3,4,5-trihydroxyphenoxy)oxan-3-yl 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoate is found in Eugenia hyemalis. [3,4-Dihydroxy-5-(3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoyloxy)-6-(3,4,5-trihydroxyphenoxy)oxan-2-yl]methyl 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoate is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa).
