Common Name(6e,8e,10e,12e,14e,16e,18e,20e,22e,26e)-2,31-dimethoxy-2,6,10,14,19,23,27,31-octamethyldotriaconta-6,8,10,12,14,16,18,20,22,26-decaene
Description3,4,3',4',7',8'-Hexahydrospirilloxanthin belongs to the class of organic compounds known as xanthophylls. These are carotenoids containing an oxygenated carotene backbone. Carotenes are characterized by the presence of two end-groups (mostly cyclohexene rings, but also cyclopentene rings or acyclic groups) linked by a long branched alkyl chain. Carotenes belonging form a subgroup of the carotenoids family. Xanthophylls arise by oxygenation of the carotene backbone. Thus, 3,4,3',4',7',8'-hexahydrospirilloxanthin is considered to be an isoprenoid. (6e,8e,10e,12e,14e,16e,18e,20e,22e,26e)-2,31-dimethoxy-2,6,10,14,19,23,27,31-octamethyldotriaconta-6,8,10,12,14,16,18,20,22,26-decaene is found in Rhodospirillum rubrum. Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on 3,4,3',4',7',8'-hexahydrospirilloxanthin.
