DescriptionBassic acid, also known as bassate, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as triterpenoids. These are terpene molecules containing six isoprene units. (4as,6as,6br,9r,10r,11s,12as,12br,14bs)-10,11-dihydroxy-9-(hydroxymethyl)-2,2,6a,6b,9,12a-hexamethyl-1,3,4,5,6,7,10,11,12,12b,13,14b-dodecahydropicene-4a-carboxylic acid is found in Diploknema butyracea and Mimusops elengi. (4as,6as,6br,9r,10r,11s,12as,12br,14bs)-10,11-dihydroxy-9-(hydroxymethyl)-2,2,6a,6b,9,12a-hexamethyl-1,3,4,5,6,7,10,11,12,12b,13,14b-dodecahydropicene-4a-carboxylic acid was first documented in 2006 (PMID: 16777677). Based on a literature review a small amount of articles have been published on Bassic acid (PMID: 19091782).
