These are lignans with a structure based on a 2,5-diaryl-3, 4-dimethyltetrahydrofuran skeleton. rel-(8R,8'R)-dimethyl-(7S,7'R)-bis(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)tetrahydro-furan is found in Aristolochia holostylis, Bicuiba oleifera, Chamaecyparis obtusa, Holostylis reniformis, Knema elegans, Machilus thunbergii, Myristica fragrans, Piper kadsura, Piper schmidtii, Saururus chinensis and Virola surinamensis. GALBACIN is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). |
