These are lignans with a structure based on a 2,5-diaryl-3, 4-dimethyltetrahydrofuran skeleton. Veraguensin is found in Acorus calamus, Acorus gramineus, Illicium floridanum, Magnolia denudata, Nectandra megapotamica, Piper attenuatum, Piper kadsura, Saururus cernuus, Saururus chinensis, Schisandra henryi, Schisandra lancifolia and Virola surinamensis. 2,5-Bis(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-3,4-dimethyloxolane is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa).
