DescriptionGlyburide, also known as glibenclamide or diabeta, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as benzenesulfonamides. These are organic compounds containing a sulfonamide group that is S-linked to a benzene ring. Glyburide is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). In humans, glyburide is involved in glibenclamide action pathway. Glibenclamide was first documented in 2005 (PMID: 16081479). An N-sulfonylurea that is acetohexamide in which the acetyl group is replaced by a 2-(5-chloro-2-methoxybenzamido)ethyl group (PMID: 16634115).
