Description2,6-Dimethyl-7-octene-2,3,6-triol belongs to the class of organic compounds known as fatty alcohols. These are aliphatic alcohols consisting of a chain of a least six carbon atoms. Thus, 2,6-dimethyl-7-octene-2,3,6-triol is considered to be a fatty alcohol lipid molecule. 2,6-Dimethyl-7-octene-2,3,6-triol is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. Outside of the human body, 2,6-Dimethyl-7-octene-2,3,6-triol has been detected, but not quantified in, a few different foods, such as alcoholic beverages, common grapes, and fruits. 2,6-Dimethyl-7-octene-2,3,6-triol is found in Cnidium monnieri. This could make 2,6-dimethyl-7-octene-2,3,6-triol a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
