Common NameIsovalerylsarcosine
DescriptionIsovalerylsarcosine, also known as isopentanoylsarcosine, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as n-acyl-alpha amino acids. N-acyl-alpha amino acids are compounds containing an alpha amino acid which bears an acyl group at its terminal nitrogen atom. An N-acyl-amino acid resulting from the formal condensation of carboxy group of isovaleric acid with the amino group of sarcosine. Isovalerylsarcosine was first documented in 1983 (PMID: 6197208). Isovalerylsarcosine is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa) (PMID: 28005947).
