DescriptionOctanoyl-CoA, also known as 8:0-CoA or capryloyl-CoA, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as 2,3,4-saturated fatty acyl coas. These are acyl-CoAs carrying a 2,3,4-saturated fatty acyl chain. Thus, octanoyl-CoA is considered to be a fatty ester lipid molecule. A medium-chain fatty acyl-CoA that results from the formal condensation of the thiol group of coenzyme A with the carboxy group of octanoic acid. Octanoyl-CoA is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. Octanoyl-CoA may be a unique S. Cerevisiae (yeast) metabolite. Within humans, octanoyl-CoA participates in a number of enzymatic reactions. In particular, octanoyl-CoA and glycerol 3-phosphate can be converted into lpa(8:0/0:0) Through the action of the enzyme glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase. In addition, lpa(8:0/0:0) And octanoyl-CoA can be converted into PA(8:0/8:0) Through its interaction with the enzyme 1-acyl-sn-glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase. Octanoyl-CoA is found in Paraburkholderia phymatum. Octanoyl-CoA was first documented in 1973 (PMID: 4722901). In humans, octanoyl-CoA is involved in the metabolic disorder called de novo triacylglycerol biosynthesis pathway (PMID: 11411544) (PMID: 2895026) (PMID: 7092822) (PMID: 729581).
