| Description | 2,4-Dihydroxybutanoic acid, also known as 2,4-dihydroxybutyrate or 3-deoxytetronate, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as short-chain hydroxy acids and derivatives. These are hydroxy acids with an alkyl chain the contains less than 6 carbon atoms. 2,4-Dihydroxybutanoic acid is found in Arabidopsis thaliana, Homo sapiens (Urine) and Lotus corniculatus. 2,4-Dihydroxybutanoic acid was first documented in 1987 (PMID: 3126356). 2,4-Dihydroxybutanoic acid is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. |
