Common Namen-Phenylformamide
DescriptionFormanilide, also known as formamidobenzene or phenyl formamide, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as anilides. These are organic heterocyclic compounds derived from oxoacids RkE(=O)l(OH)m (l not 0) by replacing an OH group by the NHPh group or derivative formed by ring substitution. Formanilide is the organic compound with the formula C6H5N(H)CHO. The compound is an additive in rubber products as well as a common synthetic intermediate. Formanilide is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). It is the formamide of aniline. Dehydration of formanilide gives phenylisocyanide. For example it is a precursor to the fungicide mepanipyrim. n-Phenylformamide is found in Citrus aurantifolia , Citrus aurantium , Citrus limon , Citrus paradisi , Citrus reticulata and Citrus sinensis . n-Phenylformamide was first documented in 2001 (PMID: 11148121). It is a colorless solid.
