DescriptionLophotoxin belongs to the class of organic compounds known as macrolides and analogues. These are organic compounds containing a lactone ring of at least twelve members. Lophotoxin is found in Leptogorgia alba, Leptogorgia laxa, Leptogorgia violacea, Lophogorgia peruana and Lophogorgia violacea. It was first documented in 2002 (PMID: 12000299). Based on a literature review a significant number of articles have been published on Lophotoxin (PMID: 18698819) (PMID: 17190454) (PMID: 16032357) (PMID: 15844963).
