Common Namep-Hydroxyphenyl acetic acid methyl ester
DescriptionMethyl 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)acetate, also known as 4-hydroxybenzeneacetate methyl ester, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as 1-hydroxy-2-unsubstituted benzenoids. These are phenols that are unsubstituted at the 2-position. A methyl ester resulting from the formal condensation of the carboxy group of 4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid with methanol. p-Hydroxyphenyl acetic acid methyl ester is found in Bongardia chrysogonum, Cichorium endivia, Cichorium intybus, Forsythia viridissima, Ophiocordyceps sinensis, Penicillium chrysogenum, Penicillium herquei, Jacobaea erucifolia, Taraxacum formosanum, Taraxacum mongolicum and Zyzzya fuliginosa. It was first documented in 2011 (PMID: 21381678). Methyl 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)acetate is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa).
