| Description | 5,6-Diepicapsokarpoxanthin belongs to the class of organic compounds known as xanthophylls. These are carotenoids containing an oxygenated carotene backbone. Carotenes are characterized by the presence of two end-groups (mostly cyclohexene rings, but also cyclopentene rings or acyclic groups) linked by a long branched alkyl chain. Carotenes belonging form a subgroup of the carotenoids family. Xanthophylls arise by oxygenation of the carotene backbone. Thus, 5,6-diepicapsokarpoxanthin is considered to be an isoprenoid. (3S,3'S,5S,5'R,6S)-5,6-Dihydro-3,3',5,6-tetrahydroxy-beta,kappa-caroten-6'-one is found in Capsicum annuum var. longum . Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on 5,6-diepicapsokarpoxanthin. |
