| Common Name | (3S,4R,5S,6S,4'S,5'S,6'S)-5,6,5',6'-Tetrahydro-beta,beta-carotene-3,4,4'-triol |
|---|
| Description | 3,4,4'-Trihydroxypirardixanthin belongs to the class of organic compounds known as xanthophylls. These are carotenoids containing an oxygenated carotene backbone. Carotenes are characterized by the presence of two end-groups (mostly cyclohexene rings, but also cyclopentene rings or acyclic groups) linked by a long branched alkyl chain. Carotenes belonging form a subgroup of the carotenoids family. Xanthophylls arise by oxygenation of the carotene backbone. Thus, 3,4,4'-trihydroxypirardixanthin is considered to be an isoprenoid. (3S,4R,5S,6S,4'S,5'S,6'S)-5,6,5',6'-Tetrahydro-beta,beta-carotene-3,4,4'-triol is found in Fusinus perplexus. Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on 3,4,4'-trihydroxypirardixanthin. |
