DescriptionGlyasperin C belongs to the class of organic compounds known as 5-o-methylated isoflavonoids. These are isoflavonoids with methoxy groups attached to the C5 atom of the isoflavonoid backbone. Isoflavonoids are natural products derived from 3-phenylchromen-4-one. Glyasperin C is a secondary metabolite. Secondary metabolites are metabolically or physiologically non-essential metabolites that may serve a role as defense or signalling molecules. In some cases they are simply molecules that arise from the incomplete metabolism of other secondary metabolites. (3R)-7,2',4'-Trihydroxy-5-methoxy-6-prenylisoflavan is found in Glycyrrhiza aspera, Glycyrrhiza inflata and Glycyrrhiza uralensis . (3R)-7,2',4'-Trihydroxy-5-methoxy-6-prenylisoflavan was first documented in 2005 (PMID: 16142649). Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on glyasperin C.
