Natural Product Identification
Common Name3-O-Methylcalopocarpin
Description3-O-methylcalopocarpin, also known as orientanol b, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as pterocarpans. These are benzo-pyrano-furano-benzene compounds, containing the 6H-[1]benzofuro[3,2-c]chromene skeleton. They are derivatives of isoflavonoids. 3-O-methylcalopocarpin is a secondary metabolite. Secondary metabolites are metabolically or physiologically non-essential metabolites that may serve a role as defense or signalling molecules. In some cases they are simply molecules that arise from the incomplete metabolism of other secondary metabolites. 3-O-Methylcalopocarpin is found in Erythrina burttii, Erythrina glauca, Erythrina orientalis and Erythrina variegata . 3-O-Methylcalopocarpin was first documented in 2003 (PMID: 12770595). Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on 3-O-methylcalopocarpin.
