Description5,7-Dihydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3,6,8-trimethoxy-4H-chromen-4-one, also known as 5,7,4'-trihydroxy-3,6,8-trimethoxyflavone, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as 8-o-methylated flavonoids. These are flavonoids with methoxy groups attached to the C8 atom of the flavonoid backbone. Thus, 5,7-dihydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3,6,8-trimethoxy-4H-chromen-4-one is considered to be a flavonoid lipid molecule. Sarothrin is found in Ambrosia grayi, Baccharis sarothroides, Encelia densifolia, Gardenia obtusifolia, Gutierrezia wrightii, Gymnosperma glutinosum and Herissantia tiubae. 5,7-Dihydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3,6,8-trimethoxy-4H-chromen-4-one is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral.
