Common Name3,5-Dihydroxy-4',6,7-trimethoxyflavone
DescriptionMikanin belongs to the class of organic compounds known as flavonols. Flavonols are compounds that contain a flavone (2-phenyl-1-benzopyran-4-one) backbone carrying a hydroxyl group at the 3-position. Thus, mikanin is considered to be a flavonoid lipid molecule. 3,5-Dihydroxy-4',6,7-trimethoxyflavone is found in Alnus koehnei, Artemisia annua , Baccharis pilularis, Cassinia laevis, Cheilanthes argentea, Cyanthillium cinereum, Helianthus microcephalus, Helianthus x glaucus, Heterotheca psammophila, Mikania cordata , Mikania micrantha, Salvia candidissima and Zanthoxylum bungeanum. Mikanin is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral.
