Natural Product Identification
Common Name7-Hydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3,5-dimethoxy-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one
DescriptionKaempferol 3,5-dimethyl ether belongs to the class of organic compounds known as 5-o-methylated flavonoids. These are flavonoids with methoxy groups attached to the C5 atom of the flavonoid backbone. Thus, kaempferol 3,5-dimethyl ether is considered to be a flavonoid lipid molecule. 7-Hydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3,5-dimethoxy-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one is found in Chrysothamnus humilis, Chrysothamnus nauseosus, Dioscorea bulbifera and Linaria dalmatica. Kaempferol 3,5-dimethyl ether is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral.
