Natural Product Identification
Common Name3,7-Dimethoxy-5-hydroxyflavone
DescriptionGalangin 3,7-dimethyl ether, also known as 3,7-dimethylgalangin, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as 7-o-methylated flavonoids. These are flavonoids with methoxy groups attached to the C7 atom of the flavonoid backbone. Thus, galangin 3,7-dimethyl ether is considered to be a flavonoid lipid molecule. 3,7-Dimethoxy-5-hydroxyflavone is found in Boesenbergia pandurata , Boesenbergia rotunda, Cheilanthes kaulfussii, Cryptocarya chinensis, Escallonia langleyensis, Escallonia leucantha, Heliotropium huascoense, Heliotropium huascuense, Heliotropium megalanthum, Heliotropium pycnophyllum, Kaempferia parviflora , Muntingia calabura, Notholaena ekmanii, Notholaena spp., Platyzoma microphyllum, Pseudognaphalium cheiranthifolium and Pseudognaphalium viscosum. Galangin 3,7-dimethyl ether is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral.
