Description5-Hydroxy-7-methoxy-6-methylflavone, also known as 6-methyltectochrysin, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as 7-o-methylated flavonoids. These are flavonoids with methoxy groups attached to the C7 atom of the flavonoid backbone. Thus, 5-hydroxy-7-methoxy-6-methylflavone is considered to be a flavonoid lipid molecule. 5-Hydroxy-7-methoxy-6-methylflavone is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. Outside of the human body, 5-Hydroxy-7-methoxy-6-methylflavone has been detected, but not quantified in, tea. 5-Hydroxy-7-methoxy-6-methyl-2-phenyl-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one is found in Hypericum ericoides, Leptospermum polygalifolium, Leptospermum recurvum and Leptospermum scoparium . This could make 5-hydroxy-7-methoxy-6-methylflavone a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
