Natural Product Identification
Common Name5,7-Dihydroxy-2-(3-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)-6-methoxy-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one
DescriptionDesmethoxycentaureidin belongs to the class of organic compounds known as 6-o-methylated flavonoids. These are flavonoids with methoxy groups attached to the C6 atom of the flavonoid backbone. Thus, desmethoxycentaureidin is considered to be a flavonoid lipid molecule. 5,7-Dihydroxy-2-(3-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)-6-methoxy-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one is found in Achillea holosericea, Arnica longifolia, Arnica viscosa, Baccharis gaudichaudiana, Baccharis neaei, Brickellia baccharidea, Centaurea cineraria, Centaurea jacea, Centaurea nigrescens, Centaurea phrygia, Duranta plumieri , Haplopappus scrobiculatus, Peucephyllum schottii, Sideritis spp., Stachys aegyptiaca and Thymus satureioides. Desmethoxycentaureidin is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral.
