DescriptionBikaverin, also known as lycopersin, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as xanthones. These are polycyclic aromatic compounds containing a xanthene moiety conjugated to a ketone group at carbon 9. Xanthene is a tricyclic compound made up of two benzene rings linearly fused to each other through a pyran ring. Bikaverin is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Bikaverin is found in Fusarium bulbigenum, Gibberella fujikuroi, Fusarium oxysporum var. lycopersici, Fusarium solani var. pisi, Fusarium vanettenii and Verticillium agaricinum. Bikaverin was first documented in 2014 (PMID: 24183988). A organic heterotetracyclic compound that is 10H-benzoxanthene-7,10,12-trione substituted by hydroxy groups at positions 6 and 11, methoxy groups at positions 3 and 8 and a methyl group at position 1 (PMID: 24291181).
