| Description | Piscerythramine belongs to the class of organic compounds known as enals. These are an alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehyde of general formula RC=C-CH=O in which the aldehydic C=O function is conjugated to a C=C triple bond at the alpha, beta position. Thus, piscerythramine is considered to be a flavonoid lipid molecule. A hydroxyisoflavone that is isoflavone substituted by hydroxy groups at positions 5, 7 and 3', prenyl groups at positions 2' and 6', a methoxy group at position 5' and an amino group at position 4'. 4'-Amino-5,7,3'-trihydroxy-5'-methoxy-2',6'-diprenylisoflavone is found in Apis cerana, Piscidia erythrina and Piscidia piscipula. Piscerythramine is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. |
