Description(2S,4S,5S)-5-ethenyl-4-{[(1S)-2-methyl-1H,2H,3H,4H,9H-pyrido[3,4-b]indol-1-yl]methyl}-7,17-diazatetracyclo[8.7.0.0²,⁷.0¹¹,¹⁶]Heptadeca-1(10),11,13,15-tetraene belongs to the class of organic compounds known as harmala alkaloids. Harmala alkaloids are compounds with a structure based on harmaline, harmine, harmalol, harman or a derivative of those parents. These parents are beta-carbolines, consisting of a pyrimidine fused to the pyrrole moiety of an indole to form a pyrido[3,4-b]indole. Usambarine is found in Strychnos usambarensis. Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on (2S,4S,5S)-5-ethenyl-4-{[(1S)-2-methyl-1H,2H,3H,4H,9H-pyrido[3,4-b]indol-1-yl]methyl}-7,17-diazatetracyclo[8.7.0.0²,⁷.0¹¹,¹⁶]Heptadeca-1(10),11,13,15-tetraene.
