Common NameMeranzin
Description(R)-Meranzin belongs to the class of organic compounds known as coumarins and derivatives. These are polycyclic aromatic compounds containing a 1-benzopyran moiety with a ketone group at the C2 carbon atom (1-benzopyran-2-one) (R)-Meranzin is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, (R)-Meranzin has been detected, but not quantified in, citrus. Meranzin is found in Citrus aurantium, Citrus junos, Ferula microloba and Murraya exotica. This could make (R)-meranzin a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
