Common NameCoixinden A
DescriptionCoixinden A belongs to the class of organic compounds known as indenes and isoindenes. Indenes and isoindenes are compounds containing an indene moiety(which consists of a cyclopentadiene fused to a benzene ring), or a isoindene moiety (which consists of a cyclopentadiene fused to cyclohexadiene ring). Coixinden A is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, Coixinden A has been detected, but not quantified in, a few different foods, such as alcoholic beverages, coffee and coffee products, and tea. Coixinden A is found in Coix lachryma-jobi var. ma-yuen and Coix lacrima-jobi var. ma-yuen. This could make coixinden a a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
