Common Name6-Hydroxy-4-methoxy-3-(3-methyl-2-butenyl)-2-(2-phenylethenyl)benzoic acid
Description6-Hydroxy-4-methoxy-3-(3-methyl-2-butenyl)-2-(2-phenylethenyl)benzoic acid, also known as 3-hydroxy-5-methoxy-6-prenylstilbene-2-carboxylic acid, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as stilbenes. These are organic compounds containing a 1,2-diphenylethylene moiety. Stilbenes (C6-C2-C6 ) are derived from the common phenylpropene (C6-C3) skeleton building block. The introduction of one or more hydroxyl groups to a phenyl ring lead to stilbenoids. 6-Hydroxy-4-methoxy-3-(3-methyl-2-butenyl)-2-(2-phenylethenyl)benzoic acid is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. Outside of the human body, 6-Hydroxy-4-methoxy-3-(3-methyl-2-butenyl)-2-(2-phenylethenyl)benzoic acid has been detected, but not quantified in, pigeon pea and pulses. This could make 6-hydroxy-4-methoxy-3-(3-methyl-2-butenyl)-2-(2-phenylethenyl)benzoic acid a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
