Common NameMethyl (E)-2-octenoate
DescriptionMethyl (E)-2-octenoate, also known as fema 3712, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as fatty acid esters. These are carboxylic ester derivatives of a fatty acid. Methyl (E)-2-octenoate is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. Methyl (E)-2-octenoate is a sweet, costus, and fruity tasting compound. Outside of the human body, Methyl (E)-2-octenoate has been detected, but not quantified in, asian pears and pears. This could make methyl (e)-2-octenoate a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
