Common NameHelichrysoside
Description(6-{[2-(3,4-Dihydroxyphenyl)-5,7-dihydroxy-4-oxo-4H-chromen-3-yl]oxy}-3,4,5-trihydroxyoxan-2-yl)methyl (2E)-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)prop-2-enoate belongs to the class of organic compounds known as alpha amino acids. These are amino acids in which the amino group is attached to the carbon atom immediately adjacent to the carboxylate group (alpha carbon) (6-{[2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-5,7-dihydroxy-4-oxo-4H-chromen-3-yl]oxy}-3,4,5-trihydroxyoxan-2-yl)methyl (2E)-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)prop-2-enoate is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, (6-{[2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-5,7-dihydroxy-4-oxo-4H-chromen-3-yl]oxy}-3,4,5-trihydroxyoxan-2-yl)methyl (2E)-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)prop-2-enoate has been detected, but not quantified in, european chestnuts and saffrons. Helichrysoside is found in Helichrysum kraussii , Pinus banksiana and Pinus contorta . This could make (6-{[2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-5,7-dihydroxy-4-oxo-4H-chromen-3-yl]oxy}-3,4,5-trihydroxyoxan-2-yl)methyl (2E)-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)prop-2-enoate a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
