Natural Product Identification
Common Name(R)-2-Hydroxy-7-methoxy-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-3(4H)-one 2-glucoside
DescriptionHMBOA-Glc, also known as 2-gmbo, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as o-glycosyl compounds. These are glycoside in which a sugar group is bonded through one carbon to another group via a O-glycosidic bond. HMBOA-Glc is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, HMBOA-Glc has been detected, but not quantified in, several different foods, such as alcoholic beverages, coffee and coffee products, common wheats, corns, and tea. (R)-2-Hydroxy-7-methoxy-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-3(4H)-one 2-glucoside is found in Zea mays. This could make hmboa-GLC a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
