Description3-Methylbutyl 2-methylpropanoate, also known as isoamyl 2-methylpropanoate or isopentyl isobutyrate, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as carboxylic acid esters. These are carboxylic acid derivatives in which the carbon atom from the carbonyl group is attached to an alkyl or an aryl moiety through an oxygen atom (forming an ester group). 3-Methylbutyl 2-methylpropanoate is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. 3-Methylbutyl 2-methylpropanoate is an apricot, banana, and fruity tasting compound. Outside of the human body,. 3-Methylbutyl 2-methylpropanoate is found in Acca sellowiana. 3-Methylbutyl 2-methylpropanoate was first documented in 2007 (PMID: 17633428). A fatty acid ester obtained by the formal condensation of isoamylol with isobutyric acid.
