Description2-Methylpropyl propanoate, also known as cyclopropyl methyl ether or fema 2212, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as carboxylic acid esters. These are carboxylic acid derivatives in which the carbon atom from the carbonyl group is attached to an alkyl or an aryl moiety through an oxygen atom (forming an ester group). 2-Methylpropyl propanoate is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. 2-Methylpropyl propanoate is a sweet, banana, and bitter tasting compound. Outside of the human body, 2-Methylpropyl propanoate has been detected, but not quantified in, apples. 2-Methylpropyl propanoate is found in Oreotragus oreotragus. This could make 2-methylpropyl propanoate a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
