Common NameHomodolicholide
DescriptionArtonin K belongs to the class of organic compounds known as xanthones. These are polycyclic aromatic compounds containing a xanthene moiety conjugated to a ketone group at carbon 9. Xanthene is a tricyclic compound made up of two benzene rings linearly fused to each other through a pyran ring. Thus, artonin K is considered to be a flavonoid lipid molecule. Artonin K is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. Outside of the human body, Artonin K has been detected, but not quantified in, fruits and jackfruits. This could make artonin K a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
